Typical Day

The career term “Farmer” covers an extremely broad category of fields including: row crops production, truck farming, livestock and milk production, soil science, irrigation technology, and some aspects of natural resource management. Each area under the heading Farmer will involve different work aspects and each day will likely be quite different. If you like working outdoors with soils, animals, planting seeds, managing soils and water and forests and possibly operating large tractors and heavy equipment, this might be a career field to explore. One thing to take into consideration is that a days work may not be limited to 8 hours and there are few 5 day weeks in this industry as the crops, soils, animals and weather do not work on a 5 day work week.
