What are employers looking for?
March 10, 2021 at 9:29 am #5196AnonymousInactive00000For entry level positions an understanding of medical terminology, basics of human anatomy, understanding of insurance terms. This is typically accomplished by a certificate at a two-year college. To become a medical coder you will need to know medical terminology, human anatomy, the coding systems, basics of pharmacology, and the revenue cycle of healthcare. This can be done at a 2-year college. To continue on to management you will need to go on to a 4-year degree in Health Information Management or Healthcare Administration. Both transfer options are available to Central Lakes College. Customer service, the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format, computer skills are basic “soft” skills needed.
