How long does it take, or what does it take to be an experienced installer?

Plumbers are required to get an apprentice license through the state of Minnesota. After 4 years they are allowed to test out to become a journeyman plumber. 1 year after that they would be allowed to test out as a master plumber. For HVAC there is no state license, but several large cities require their own licenses. In both trades, it is about 6-7 years before most guys are really considered an experienced installer earning top pay.
