It allows me to make my own decisions, the ability to provide food for people, and manage land resources for future generations.

What if I don’t have any farming experience? Should I still consider this career?

Agriculture is more than cows and crops. Being a successful farmer today requires knowledge of technology, educational preparation and business skills. Many farmers learn about the business and practice of agriculture through a training program at a college or on the job. There are many types of farming today; dairy, cattle, poultry, horse, crops, fruit and even fish farming. It is an exciting career and I would highly recommend that you consider it.

I am an outdoor person who likes to work with plants, soils, animals and anything that has to do with the environment. That being said, there are times that this career requires one to work in extreme weather conditions such as cold, heat, rain, mud and water. If you don’t like to get dirty this is probably not a good career choice.
