What would you recommend I do at this point to get into this field?

Volunteer at your school to read to children, work in the after school programs or babysit neighborhood children. Next, I would check with colleges to see what high school courses they recommend. Courses like human development, first aid, child development or psychology are excellent choices. It is also important that you work on your basic reading and math skills because in Minnesota you will have to take the NES Essential Academic Skills test once you complete your college degree.
